About Julie
Meet Julie Haase
Julie Haase, a talented artist with roots in a North Dakota farm, brings her childhood experiences and passion for animals to life in her works. Educated at the Milan Art Institute, Julie's artwork, especially her commission paintings of pets and military portraits, has touched many hearts.
Residing in San Tan Valley, AZ, with a family of pets, including rescue donkeys Asha and Kota, her creations are inspired by a deep desire to educate children about democracy. Julie's book, Asha and Kota’s America: Election Trail, reflects this aspiration, blending her artistic talent and love for animals into a meaningful narrative.
Meet Asha & Kota
Asha and Kota were part of The Bureau of Land Management Burro Rescue Program in Arizona. The government program managed and protected wild burros or wild donkeys that lived on public lands.
The program rescued and provided care for the donkeys in need. Suitable homes were found through adoption. The donkeys were rounded up to ensure the health of the wild burros. Once the donkeys were rescued, they were given veterinary services, trained, and then prepared for adoption.
Julie adopted Asha and Kota in May of 2019. Asha is a female and was 2-years-old. Kota, the male, was 1-year-old. Asha is very tame and loves to be brushed and give hugs. She follows Julie around the large backyard looking for treats and attention. Kota is still wild. He sometimes allows petting but really doesn't like it. He does love treats and follows Asha everywhere. Asha and Kota, though, are still wild animals and may act like it suddenly. This program has now ended but the BLM encourages education of the wild burros of Arizona.
